Sisters Little League Opener

Sisters Little League starts the 2012 season this week with 116 or more
Sisters-area kids signed up to play ball. Opening Day is Saturday, April 14,
10:00 am at the Sisters Community Church ball fields.

³We¹ve had Little League in Sister for over thirty-four years, as far as
anyone can recall. It is always an exciting and fun part of spring,²
remarked Davina Luz, Sisters Little League President.

³All teams should arrive, in uniform, by 9:45 Saturday,² according to Peggy
Gillum, the leagues Player Agent. ³All participants take the Little League
pledge, get introduced and parade across home plate, then have their
pictures taken. Games start about 11:00 am. It¹s a busy and fun morning.²

This year will feature free Opening Day hot dogs for everyone, as part of a
generous donation by the Ford Family Foundation. Earlier this year
foundation volunteers refurbished and painted the unique stadium seating and
replaced two worn-out dugouts.

³The Ford Foundation people put a lot of time and sweat into Little League
facilities and have really been a tremendous help,² according to President
Luz. ³We can all be proud and thankful for their contributions to our
program and to the kids.²

Boys baseball and girls softball teams have been practicing for the past ten
days to accommodate an earlier season opening. An extra week of game time is
needed with unpredictable spring weather.

Technically the season is underway. With tight scheduling this year, some
girls softball and a boys major league game were played earlier this week.

There are twenty volunteer coaches this season. A nine-member board of
volunteer parents operates sisters Little League. Parent volunteers have
been busy getting four fields ready for baseball and softball play.
